Cost for Care
The cost of care is often one of the biggest stresses families face as they grow. Our goal is to be as transparent with the process of billing and payment so that you are able to focus on caring for yourself!
Our mission runs deep: if you feel called to receive care with us and, especially as a birthing client, you are a low-risk candidate, we will work with you to make sure your goals are realized!
Birth centers are a cost-savings for everyone!
For families using a birth center with insurance, charges are usually 30-40% less than what they would be in a hospital setting for an uncomplicated vaginal birth.
We are still in the process of becoming in-network with most insurance companies
We fully anticipate being able to take most insurances in time.
We are not in-network with Medicaid or TRICARE at this time.
Are we able to pay for care with private or public insurance?
We are in-network with Humana PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, and United Healthcare PPO. We are contracting to be in-network with most insurances. We are able to accept most PPO plans.
If you are using another insurance that we are not in-network, there is a possibility your provider also has benefits that would be worth exploring.
To learn what your personal responsibility is with insurance for in-network AND out-of-network plans, a Verification of Benefits (VOB) is how we learn about your individual plan.
Medicaid recipients will be able to utilize their benefits for coverage when we are in-network—we are currently awaiting news of which policies will accept us. During this wait, we cannot accept Medicaid.
Payment plans for out-of-pocket costs are always an option.
What if we don’t carry insurance, have an HSA/FSA or need to self-pay?
We offer a discounted bundled fee for clients whose insurance isn’t in-network, don’t carry insurance or who have high deductibles and prefer to pay out of pocket. It includes routine prenatal care, birth support, postpartum care and the first two weeks of care for your newborn. This self-pay rate does not include: nitrous oxide, circumcision (if opted), certain genetic screening, or our registration fee (as noted below). We are able to create a payment plan that is comfortable for each client.
What costs are involved for a pregnancy and birth with Burr Ridge Birth Center?
We will be breaking down our fees into four categories:
Registration fee - $200 (this is a one time, non refundable out of pocket cost not covered by insurance that includes verifications of benefits, our Birth Prep: Plan A to Plan B class, chart reviews and other administrative costs).
Professional fee (this is one-on-one time with the midwives during your appointments and at the time of your birth; billed to insurance/self pay)
Facility fee (this covers birthing suite use, birth supplies, nursing/birth assistant support and related costs to your appointments; billed to insurance/self pay)
Newborn care (immediate care after birth, and for the first 2 weeks of life; billed to insurance/self pay)
We will present you with an estimate of any out-of-pocket costs after you have attended a tour with us and we’ve been able to review your specific policy, prior to your first appointment with the midwives, so you are able to make informed decisions about your care.
Birthing clients of BRBC are also asked to commit to childbirth education classes:
Families choosing to birth with us will be engaging with certain classes to optimize their experience, preparation and success.
First time Birthing Parents are requested to take a comprehensive childbirth class. That can be the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class or Empowered Birth that we provide at our center, or from a class in the community that fulfills the necessary educational needs of first-time parents (i.e. understanding the process of birth, ways to cope with unmedicated labor, how to help labor progress, postpartum and newborn care, etc).
All families planning to birth at the Burr Ridge Birth Center are requested to take the What If? class between 24-36 weeks, which explores what your ideal birth plan could look like, details the differences a birth in a birth center would involve, discusses what birth can look like if it involves a hospital transfer, and covers all of the initial postpartum and newborn details that are important to know in your first 24-48 hours at home. This class is exclusive to BRBC clients, and is covered by the registration fee.
Any additional classes offered are not required, but definitely encouraged!
