Abigail Geller, BsED, CD, RPYT - Outreach & Education Coordinator

As a dedicated professional educator and birth worker, Abigail believes in empowering, holistic, and respectful healthcare. She is an advocate of trauma-informed reproductive services that center consent and bodily autonomy. Abigail envisions a world where affirming midwifery and doula care are accessible to families everywhere.

Abigail grew up in a small suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. It was during her childhood that she first stumbled upon the magic of birth work in the den of her parent's home watching "A Baby Story" on TLC. Episode after episode her fascination with birth grew; a process she felt was both harrowing and heartwarming. In 2014, she finally attended a birth in person, as a volunteer with Chicago Volunteer Doulas. Caring for her first client as a Doula brought her back to the same feelings she had in childhood, solidifying her dedication and passion for reproductive justice and healthcare across the human lifespan.

Formally, Abigail has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University. She is a Trauma-Informed Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) with Yoga Alliance, having studied classical yoga from the Krishnamacharya Lineage through Moksha Yoga Center in Chicago and the Shankarcharya Tradition at the Ignite Yoga and Wellness Institute. As a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT), she specializes in fertility, prenatal, and postpartum yoga having trained through the Amala School of Prenatal Yoga rooted in the tantric tradition of Sri Vidya. Currently, she studies yoga in the lineage of Swami Dayananda.  She is a certified community birth & postpartum doula having trained with ToLabor, Birth Advocacy Doula Training, and the Postpartum Healing Lodge.

For Abigail, joining the Burr Ridge Birth Center Team is a dream realized. She loves that her role combines her skills as an Educator, having been a teacher in Chicago Public Schools, an Advocate, having been a Teen Outreach & Education Coordinator at a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Shelter, and a Birth worker, having been an Independent Business Owner of a Yoga and Doula LLC.

Outside of Burr Ridge Birth Center, you can find Abigail honoring her matrilineal relatives and ancestors through gardening and tending to plants, cooking large batches of bone and mushroom broth to accomplish her goal of leaving a family legacy of fantastic soup and stew making, and exploring the art of slow living via the inspiration of Tricia Hersey. Abigail currently lives in Schaumburg, Illinois with her husband, Jason, and daughter who was born at Burr Ridge Birth Center in February 2023.
